Heartfelt Thanks to 56 Cyclists who Raised Funds for 450 Nights of Free Nursing Care & to our Sponsor Kingspan

IHF Kingspan Cycle Challenge

56 Cyclists Complete The Kingspan Irish Hospice Foundation Cycle Challenge on The Wild Mediterranean Way

The Irish Hospice Foundation warmly thanks all 56 cyclists who raised €150,000 for The IHF’s Nurses for Night Care service as they journeyed over 600km from Southern France to Barcelona last week including several gruelling climbs through the Pyrenees. Sports journalist and former professional cyclist Paul Kimmage joined the cycle. Sharon Foley, CEO of The IHF, commented:
“Each year the demand for our Nurses for Night Care Service grows; and we are determined to continue to support people so they can fulfil their wish to die at home. We receive no core state funding so the cycle is a hugely important fundraiser for us. We are grateful to our sponsors Kingspan for their continued support and to all the cyclists that have fundraised so hard for us this year.”
In the past all ages have completed the cycle - from 20-year-olds, right up to male and female cyclists in their seventies. Couples, siblings, colleagues, friends and cyclists of all abilities have all come along for the adventure. Cyclists included nine participants from Kingspan, including CEO Gene Murtagh, and they raised over €65,000 for The Irish Hospice Foundation. Gene Murtagh, CEO of Kingspan said:
“We’ve had an exhausting but uplifting experience, enjoying some beautiful scenery and the support of a fantastic organising team. Kingspan has sponsored this event since 2009, and we are delighted to be associated with the amazing work of The Irish Hospice Foundation.”
In 2015 The IHF’s Nurses for Night Care service provided over 1,700 nights of free nursing care to 520 families, and the demand grows annually. Since the cycle challenge began in 2009, over €1m has been raised to support the work of The IHF.   Tags: , ,
