Design & Dignity Support
Our vision is to roll out Design & Dignity projects across Ireland and to work to enhance end-of-life care in Irish hospitals, where almost half of all deaths occur. We have made a start by developing a number of ‘exemplar’ projects in 11 hospitals throughout Ireland, re-designing bereavement suites in emergency departments, upgrading mortuaries, transforming family rooms and creating private spaces where bad news can be broken sensitively.
In October 2014, An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD announced the distribution of grants of €500,000 towards transforming spaces in hospitals for people at end of life. This will help to bring the total number of Design & Dignity projects in Irish hospitals to 24.
The response to the projects to date has been hugely encouraging. These relatively small investments are making a real difference at what is often a traumatic time in people’s lives. We want to do more and we would like you to help.
