Public Meeting on Advance Healthcare Directives February 27th 2014
Dr Brendan O’Shea, GP and lecturer, Dr Liam Twomey Fine Gael TD, Patricia Rickard-Clarke Solicitor and former Law Reform Commissioner, Dr Siobhán O'Sullivan Chief Bioethics Officer with the Department of Health and CEO of the Irish Hospice Foundation Sharon Foley all spoke at a public meeting on Advance Healthcare Directives in Dublin which took place in Dublin on February 27th and was organised by the Forum on End of Life in Ireland – an initiative of the Irish Hospice Foundation. The Department of Health has published a draft general scheme for Advance Healthcare Directives which will be included in the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Bill 2013. A national public consultation is underway until 7th March. The aim of the public meeting was to inform people of the draft general scheme.
