LloydsPharmacy raises over €40,000 for the Irish Hospice Foundation in 2014
LloydsPharmacy, Ireland’s largest pharmacy group, raised over €40,000 for the Irish Hospice Foundation through a variety of activities held in its 87 stores across the country in 2014.
The majority of money was raised through Celebration Weekends held in-store in September, with LloydsPharmacy also donating 2% of all sales from their stores nationwide to the Irish Hospice Foundation.
Almost €15,000 was raised from Christmas activity, including the sale of reindeer food, Christmas cards and Christmas decorations.
Reindeer Food, a special recipe of oats and magic, was available to buy on sale for €2 in all branches of LloydsPharmacy around Ireland in the run up to Christmas.
Other activities included the Ice Bucket Challenge (€2,000) and store openings (€1,000).
The Irish Hospice Foundation is a national charity dedicated to all matters relating to dying, death and bereavement in Ireland. The IHF receives no core funding from the state and therefore relies on the generosity of donations to fund many services, including;
- Children’s Outreach Nurses, which means very ill children can be cared for at home surrounded by the family.
- Nurses for Night Care, which provides vital care and support to patients with life limiting illnesses.
- Training 3,000 people every year in providing bereavement support
- Improving the environment in hospitals in which people die through the Hospice Friendly Hospitals programme
Goretti Brady, managing director of LloydsPharmacy, said: “Our charity partnership with the Irish Hospice Foundation throughout 2014 was a very positive one. Not only did LloydsPharmacy colleagues and customers raise over €40,000 for the foundation, but we also had lots of fun in-store with the various fundraising activities. We look forward to our continued partnership this year and to supporting the important work of the Irish Hospice Foundation.”
Sharon Foley, CEO of the Irish Hospice Foundation said: “The Irish Hospice Foundation is delighted to receive this generous donation from LloydsPharmacy. The Irish Hospice Foundation works tirelessly every day to ensure that people who are approaching end of life receive the best care and support possible. The €40,000 raised by LloydsPharmacy colleagues and customers will greatly help us to maintain our services in 2015.”
