New Irish Hospice Foundation Strategic Plan Now Available

Putting Death, Dying and Bereavement on the national agenda

Yesterday (May 20th) saw the launch of the launch of the Irish Hospice Foundation's Strategic Plan 2016-2019 Strategic plan 2016-2019 Goals The new strategy outlines our goals and priorities for the next three years and the areas we aim to focus on. These include;
  • Placing End-of-life services on the national agenda, recognising that everyone has the right to a good death and addressing inconsistencies in palliative care provision
  • Initiating public conversation on dying, death and bereavement. Encouraging more public discussion as a society on how to be prepared for end-of-life and having our care wishes met
  • Addressing the inadequacy of Bereavement support and services in Ireland. We recognise that loss and bereavement underpin all end-of-life and palliative care, and affect us all
  • Providing training in end-of-life, bereavement and palliative care is not widespread and staff in all care settings; hospitals, care homes, community settings and hospices need support, development and training
  • Encouraging people to plan and thins about their end-of-life care. Everyone facing the end-of-life should be confident their wishes for end-of-life care will be respected
