Irish Stories of Loss and Hope is a collection of stories, art and poetry published by the Irish Hospice Foundation in 2006. The idea was developed by Dr Susan Delaney and intended to be used as a resource for bereaved people.

A number of well-known poets and artists contributed to the book including Seamus Heaney, Brendan Kennelly, Rita Ann Higgins and Carol Ann Duffy and Fiona Looney.

This book is a collection of bereavement stories by Irish people; some of the authors’ names you will recognise, some will not be familiar to you. The stories are told through narratives, poems and art pieces and all are expressions of personal grieving. The writers share how they navigated their way through  bereavement journey, the artists and poets demonstrate other ways of expressing the pain of loss.

We hope that in reading and learning about other people’s experiences you will feel less alone on your grief journey and that you will find understanding, comfort an hope within these pages.
