Job Vacancy - Bereavement and Education Resource Centre 

We are currently recruiting for the role of Bereavement Development Officer to join the Irish Hospice Foundation's Bereavement and Education Resource Centre

Position Details

Hours: Part time:  0.5 WTE Location: Based in the offices of the Irish Hospice Foundation, Morrison Chambers, 32 Nassau St, Dublin 2

Reporting Structure

Reports to : The successful candidate will report to Head of Education, Research and Bereavement Services, Irish Hospice Foundation. The Bereavement and Education Resource Centre aims to;
  • Work to support bereavement care, information and education in Ireland
  • Shape bereavement care in Ireland by working to a comprehensive three level model
  • Advocate for a strategic approach towards bereavement care in Ireland
The centre provides a range of bereavement education and training offerings. It hosts a complicated grief programme, a bereavement group support programme and the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network (funded through Tusla). We are now recruiting a bereavement development officer to work with the bereavement team supporting new developments and promoting the sustainability of existing projects. The Bereavement Development Officer will undertake the following duties :


  • Oversee and support the delivery of the scoping study commissioned by the Irish Hospice Foundation on the development of an Irish Bereavement Forum or Alliance
  • Deliver on the recommendations of that study
  • Maintain a national perspective on developing sustainable and evidence-based bereavement initiatives
  • Provide advice and support on bereavement related issues, to providers and the public
  • Input to services or education as appropriate
  • Update social media, website and communications resources

Essential requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in bereavement work in a health or social/community/education setting
  • At least a level 8 qualification in a relevant area
  • An interest and enthusiasm for making a difference in the field of bereavement care
  • An ability to work well with others in a developmental capacity
  • Excellent organisational/ project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent written skills
  • Good IT skills, including familiarity with digital and social media
  • Driving license


  • National development experience
