Summer Raffle 2019

After tearfully saying farewell to her beloved 12 year old nephew Luke, Fiona Mulchrone found her calling. Having sat by Luke’s bedside as he died, Fiona became inspired to become a Nurse for Night Care, as her family availed of night nursing in his final days.

As part of the Nurses for Night Care service, Fiona works at night in the homes of people who are dying of illnesses other than cancer. She provides crucial emotional support and has many heartfelt conversations with patients. While the death of a loved one is devastating for family members, Fiona believes that when somebody is able to die in their own home, it can bring about many positive emotions and memories.

We believe that no one should face death or bereavement without the care and support they need. That is why we are reaching out again to kind hearted people like yourself, to sell our Summer Raffle tickets, so that we can continue to fund our Nurses for Night Care service.

The demand for this vital service is rising every year, with over 2,000 nights of care provided last year, which cost around €650,000. The Irish Hospice Foundation get very little funding from the state but we are determined to continue to provide this free service that allows more people to die in comfort, and with dignity, in their own home. Last year we cared for over 600 families and we can’t thank you enough for helping us achieve this.
