PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON END-OF-LIFE CARE BY THE OIREACHTAS COMMITTEE ON HEALTH AND CHILDREN

The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) has called on the public and organisations interested in end-of-life issues to take part in the consultation process instigated by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children as part of its hearings into end-of-life care in Ireland.

Between October 24th and 14th November 2013 the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children, chaired by Jerry Buttimer TD, is holding a series of public hearings on end-of-life issues.  The public has been invited to send in written submissions by email by 5pm on Tuesday, 19th November.

Sharon Foley, Chief Executive Officer of the IHF, commented: “The Irish Hospice Foundation was delighted to share our experience and perspective on end-of-life care with the Committee in an oral hearing on October 24th.  The Committee is now seeking written submissions from interested groups and individuals to ensure that the most comprehensive and diverse range of views is available for its deliberations.  The IHF welcomes this development.  This is a great opportunity to contribute to a process which may achieve better end-of-life and bereavement care in Ireland and we are encouraging people and organisations to take part.”
