Rosabel's Rooms

Rosabel’s Rooms is a Galway-born child loss project, now a national initiative, in partnership with us here at IHF, that is reaching out to bereaved parents and families all over Ireland.

Rosabel

In April 2017, Rosabel Monroe died in her cot at her Galway home. She was just 16 months old. Following her sudden and unexpected death, her parents Suzanne McClean and Gary Monroe began their collaboration with us here at Irish Hospice Foundation to establish Rosabel’s Rooms. It was launched on the 5th of January 2018, on what would have been Rosabel’s 2nd birthday.

“Rosabel died at home but was raced to University Hospital Galway. The staff were incredible that night, but unfortunately there wasn’t any appropriate space available to us while tried to navigate our way through those crucial first post-trauma hours with our deceased child. The essence of this project is to convey a sense of reverence and respect for life, death and bereavement,”

– Suzanne McClean

Rosabel's Rooms

The Project:

Rosabel’s Rooms is working across the following areas:

Rosabel's Rooms

Our Design and Dignity programme has worked with Rosabel’s Rooms to assist with ongoing work to improve hospital spaces for families coming to terms with loss.

Rosabel's Room to Heal

Through Rosabel’s Room-to-Heal Fund, the project is facilitating direct financial support to families when a child dies in Ireland. It’s helping accommodate parents/families to take time off work, paying for funeral costs and more.

Rosabel's Room to Talk

The Rosabel’s Room to Talk Fund is ensuring therapeutic supports are made available to family members impacted by child loss in Ireland. The programme is available for specific therapists throughout Ireland to ensure bereaved parents and families receive support in their home county even if their child had to travel for treatment.
