Seamus Heaney was a long standing supporter and friend of the Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF).
The Board of Management and staff of the IHF extend their condolences to his wife Marie, their family and friends of Seamus.
Sharon Foley, CEO of the Irish Hospice Foundation said, “We are all deeply saddened by the news of Seamus’s passing and we send our deepest sympathies to his family, they are in our thoughts at this sad and difficult time.”
Seamus was a much valued and generous friend of the IHF, particularly in his support of its work to bring about culture change towards end of life care in hospitals. Seamus contributed to a number of publications to raise funds for the IHF.
His great legacy is not only in his literary works but in his activities as a promoter of human rights, including securing good end of life care for individuals.
The IHF was privileged to have had such a great supporter in Seamus. Here is a link to Seamus reciting a poem in remembrance of his mother.
