We are committed to supporting the development, delivery and dissemination of high-quality research on end-of-life and bereavement care in Ireland.
Through collaborative research projects, we develop links with partners in academia, government and other sectors in order to build a community of practice on topics related to dying, death and bereavement. Our research informs our own priorities and policy goals.
We carry out standalone and collaborative research and provide funding for select external research activities. We are interested in developing research projects which examine the areas of dying, death and bereavement.
Irish Hospice Foundation’s office is also home to the Thérèse Brady library, which is the only specialist library in the country focusing on bereavement, palliative care and end-of-life issues. If you need assistance finding our publications please contact our librarian, email [email protected]
We partner with a range of academic institutions, other charities, and research institutions to deliver high quality research publications. We also produce our own research reports. Listed below is an overview of our recently produced research reports:

Current Research Projects
Time to Reflect
In late 2021 we carried out a national survey, completed by over 2,200 people across all demographics, on their experiences and views on death and bereavement during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Time to Reflect Survey revealed the real impact of the pandemic and the importance people place on supports for end-of-life and bereavement care. Preliminary findings shows that sadly 68% of respondents lost a loved one during the pandemic while 43% suffered multiple bereavements over the two years.
