Lunch & Learn: Grief in the Workplace

This free online event is part of National Grief Awareness Week.

This webinar is for employees and employers. Many people will be working at the time they experience a bereavement or a significant life loss and require a compassionate and caring response. Having an understanding of grief will help employees understand their own grieving experience but also be more aware of how to support others when grieving.

Living with Loss

This free online event is part of National Grief Awareness Week.

This event is for all. You may have experienced a bereavement this year or at an earlier time, or you may be concerned about a child or friend who is grieving and you wish to help. We will provide an online space to share some reflections on bereavement and to help people to find out about the supports available.

Bereavement & Loss Workshops

Irish Hospice Foundation’s 2025 series of online workshops on bereavement and loss runs January to June. These workshops are targeted at professionals and volunteers who may wish to learn about bereavement and loss, and for those working with people who have experienced a loss. The aim of the workshops is to equip attendees with the understanding of the grieving process, communication skills, and appropriate methods for supporting those who are bereaved.

This year, we have 20 different workshops, covering topics such as “Overview of Loss and Bereavement”, “Grief in Maternity Care Services”, and “Grief in the Workplace”.

Workshops are €100 for a full-day workshop and €70 for a half-day workshop.

Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Teachers: Supporting Bereaved Students

This presentation is hosted by Rainbows Ireland in collaboration with the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network for Bereaved Children’s Awareness Week 2024.

Throughout this session, participants will get an introduction to Rainbows Ireland and an overview of childhood bereavement and the Bereavement Care Pyramid. Participants will learn children’s reactions to loss and grief by age and stage of development, as well as suggestions for support (and what to avoid) within the school setting. Resources and links for signposting to additional information and supports will also be shared.

Supporting Bereaved Children: An Open Evening for Parents & Carers

This session is aimed at parents and family members supporting children who are experiencing grief.

We will share information to help parents and family members understand how children and young people grieve and explore some of the common responses and reactions. We understand that conversations with children about death and dying are hard. We will offer some guidance and support to have these conversations.

There will be an opportunity for questions to be submitted anonymously via the registration form. We will do our best to address as many questions as possible over the course of this event.

A Health Promoting Approach to Children's Bereavement Support

This webinar introduces a holistic approach to supporting children through grief, focusing on promoting emotional well-being, resilience, and social connection. It emphasises the creation of safe, supportive environments that foster healthy emotional expression and overall development. The session will also explore how brain development affects a child’s understanding and experience of grief, shaping emotional responses and coping mechanisms.

Learning From Bereavement Experiences During COVID-19

Time to Reflect: a study by Irish Hospice Foundation

Time to Reflect is a survey commissioned by Irish Hospice Foundation to explore the impact of COVID-19 and public health measures on the bereavement experiences of the Irish population during this time. 

This presentation will give an overview of how the findings and recommendations are informed by and support a public health model approach to bereavement care in Ireland.

Lunch & Learn (Bereavement Series): Standards for Supporting Bereaved Children & Young People

The ‘Standards for Supporting Bereaved Children and Young People – A Framework for Development’ 2023, illustrate a way forward in the promotion of the child or young person’s voice in Irish society, in order that their needs may be appropriately recognised and supported when they are bereaved. We use the language of standards to illustrate a multi-layered vision for bereavement support to emphasise the highest level of care that our bereaved children and young people deserve.

When Someone Dies

This is a free event for anyone who is bereaved, supporting someone who is bereaved, or works in the community supporting those who are bereaved. Speaker Bryan Nolan will give a talk on bereavement, and there will be a Q&A session with a panel of people with lived experience of bereavement.

Lunch & Learn: Experiencing Grief as a Volunteer

Volunteers can encounter and experience grief as part of their work, arising from their role caring for others. This is referred to as “Professional Grief.”

For National Volunteers Week, we’re hosting this webinar for volunteers to give them an overview of the grieving experience, including the impact of personal and professional loss, and tips for coping with loss.

Hosted by Irish Childhood Bereavement Network and Irish Hospice Foundation Local Bereavement Networks, this month’s lunch and learn webinar is also linked to our November Bereaved Children’s Awareness Campaign. 

These free sessions are aimed at professionals working with children and families who are interested in becoming more grief informed and being part of a network of supports for bereaved families in Ireland. 

This month, we will look at support for bereaved children and families, starting with an overview of Bereaved Children’s Awareness Week and why we need to support bereaved families by Maura Keating Irish Childhood Bereavement Network

An Intercultural Conversation About What We Learn to Do With Grief

As a part of ongoing learning around the importance of culturally sensitive bereavement support, please join us for a conversation between women who were born outside of Ireland and who are living and working in Ireland as they share what they learned about grief and grieving while growing up in Turkey, Zimbabwe, Colombia, Ukraine and the US, along with other countries and cultures they have lived in along the way.

This event is hosted by the Barnardos Children’s Bereavement Service in collaboration with the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network – for Bereaved Children’s Awareness Week 2023.

Grieving in Exceptional Times
