About the Information and Support Line

Facing or caring for a friend or family member with a life-limiting illness can be both a challenging and uncertain time for anyone. 

The Information and Support Line (1800 60 70 66) is a confidential line that provides signposting, practical supports and resources about end-of-life care in Ireland. It is important to note that the Information and Support Line is not a medical, emergency or crisis service.

It is designed to provide information and practical support on:

  • End-of-Life Care: An important part of palliative care provision and usually commences when a person is in their last year of life.
  • Advanced Care Planning: Thinking about, talking about, and recording your choices, values, and preferences for your care at end of life and your wishes for your funeral.
  • Palliative Care: Supportive care offered throughout the progression of your life-limiting illness or at phases of your illness.

The Information and Support line is available on freephone 1800 60 70 66 from 9am – 1pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays and other holiday periods).

We aim to provide a listening, empathic and supportive service. Irish Hospice Foundation staff supporting the Information and Support Line will provide information in relation to palliative care, end-of-life care and advance care planning and will signpost you to relevant organisations if needed.

Yes, the service is free when calling from either a landline or mobile phone from within the Republic of Ireland.

The Information and Support Line is open 9am – 1pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). If the line is busy when you call, we can call you back if you leave a message with your contact details.

You can also contact us via email at [email protected]. Emails will also be responded to within the hours of 9am – 1pm, Monday to Friday.

The Information and Support Line is not a medical, emergency or crisis service. If your call is regarding an urgent medical matter, please contact your doctor or call Emergency Services on 999 / 112.  

The Information and Support Line is operated by the Dying Well at Home team at Irish Hospice Foundation.

This is a confidential service. However, the Information and Support Line staff may need to break confidentiality if they suspect a caller is at risk of serious injury or death to themselves or others.
