Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) together with the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) and the Health Service Executive (HSE) are developing a new National Nursing Home Programme (Supporting Palliative, End of Life & Bereavement Care).
The aim of the programme will be to improve the delivery of compassionate, person-centred palliative, end-of-life and bereavement care in the nursing home. It will bring together AIIHPC’s experience in delivering Project ECHO AIIHPC for nursing homes with IHF’s experience in delivering the Compassionate End of Life Programme (CEOL), a quality improvement programme for nursing homes. The programme will also work closely with the specialist palliative care sector.
It will be provided free of charge to all private and public nursing homes.
To support the delivery of the programme, we are currently recruiting for 9 (WTE) Regional Leads for Nursing Homes Programme (Supporting Palliative, End of Life & Bereavement Care) appointed nationally. Please visit our Careers Page to view the job description and apply for these roles.
For more information on the programme please read the Project Initiation Document.
One of our first initiatives will be to distribute existing palliative, end-of-life and bereavement care resources to all nursing homes nationally:
The IHF End-of-Life Family Handover Bag
The IHF End-of-Life Keepsake Pouch
EOLC Resources Leaflet with reordering details
Toolkit for Compassionate End-of-Life Care
When someone you care about it is dying in a nursing home
AIIHPPC Palliative Hub Information leaflet and a range of bereavement resource materials
CEOL Transitioning Programme
To support current CEOL sites and all other nursing homes during the development and transitioning phase of the National Nursing Home Programme, we will be offering complimentary access to related workshops and our CEOL virtual networks.
