Seán Millar (Dublin)
“The endless dance in the sky of mind ends in the clear light.”
Death in Spring
Critically acclaimed, multi-award nominated musician Seán Millar is developing an approach and musical idea entitled ‘Listening and Singing’ that reflects Irish Hospice Foundation’s research indicating Irish people seek more opportunity to talk about dying, death, bereavement, and loss. A filmed interview with Seán talking about his project can be watched here.
As this is very much a developmental project and large in nature, this project is being done in two phases. Irish Hospice Foundation, with the support of Creative Ireland, funded phase one – composing the music for Death in Spring. This was performed live in November 2022 for filming purposes at the Lady Chapel in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin 8, and can be watched here.
Singers and musicians included: Tommy Coombes, Paul Homes, Miriam Ingram, Sean Ingram, Martin McCann, Gillian O’Connor, and Suzanne Rattigan.
It is hoped further funding will be secured for phase two, which will involve interviewing hospice residents.
