Sounds at Sunset

We have all been affected, either directly or collectively, by grief and loss and much more so since March 2020. On Monday 1st November 2021 we held our first annual Sounds at Sunset to remember through the power of music those we have loved who have died. We invited you to listen to your loved one’s favourite song or a playlist that reminds you of a moment in time. To pick up the guitar and pluck a few chords, hum a long-forgotten tune or simply listen to the peaceful sounds of nature. To join family, friends or colleagues, sit alone or take a walk to your loved one’s favourite spot, to take the time to remember the lives of those we have loved who have died, using music to connect us with them and with our grief.

This beautiful song ‘Written in the Stars’ was written and performed by Sharon Shannon Big Band especially for Sounds at Sunset, featuring Jack Maher & Carol Keogh. It is a poignant, reflective song that is tinged with sadness, hope and love. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Thank you for sharing your Sounds at Sunset experience so we could experience a collective moment of grief. Please continue to share your images, sounds, stories and memories with us on social media using the hashtag #SoundsAtSunset.

Below the children of What Matters Most sang ‘Written in the Stars’ for Bereaved Children’s Awareness Week 2021, dedicated to their young friend Alessio Gunn who died aged only 9 years old in 2018.
