Kathy Whyte is the founder of Pledge to Plant which she set up in memory of her mum to acknowledge the wonderful hospice care she received in her final days and also her mum’s love of gardening and flowers. Here she talks us through her top tips for Pledge to Plant sales and the many benefits of gardening.
Ideas to get started
Pledge to Plant Top Seller 2021
Interview with the incredible Liz Hogan of Naas, Co. Kildare, who held a sale at her house in 2021, Pledge to Plant’s inaugural year. Liz raised over €25,000 for Irish Hospice Foundation’s Nurses for Night Care, providing about 80 nights of nursing care. Here Liz shares advice and tips for sales and and gardening.
Founder of Pledge to Plant
The inspiration for Pledge to Plant came from Kathy Whyte, who explains in the video below how her late mum who was a keen gardener left her with a wonderful appreciation of flowers, gardens and all things beautiful. This legacy, combined with a wish to generate funds for Irish Hospice Foundation, has inspired Kathy to develop this initiative whereby people throughout Ireland will be asked to “pledge to plant” flowers, herbs, vegetables or create bunches of flowers that they gift to family, friends, neighbours or colleagues in return for donations. We know people will be planting all over the country and will be organising plant sales and garden parties throughout June.
