Next week is National Carers Week 2021, taking place from Monday the 7th to Sunday the 13th of June. Carers Week is all about highlighting and supporting the work that family carers do.
This year’s theme is ‘Making Caring Visible’. Care Alliance Ireland (CAI) coordinate National Carers Week and, alongside Carers Week partners, have organised a variety of events designed to inform, support and celebrate family carers throughout Ireland and highlight the incredible and challenging work they do on a daily basis. Due to ongoing restrictions all events will take place online, however, this is still a wonderful opportunity to meet other family carers from all over Ireland.
Zoe from CAI will host a daily series of Q&As with a Care Alliance Ireland member. They will stream live at 2pm daily on www.facebook.com/nationalcarersweek. On Friday June 11th, our Head of Public Engagement Rebecca Lloyd will talk with Zoe about the importance of Planning Ahead, and how it can give us a sense of control and reassurance about what is important to us, as well as inform the people we love and care about.
Other events include: chair and laughter yoga; chats on topics such as health, finances, managing at home and stress management; guided meditation; mindfulness and reflection sessions; a sing-along session and a virtual coffee morning. Visit carersweek.ie for a full list of events
Other CAI partners include Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, Irish Cancer Society, St. Michael’s House, MS Ireland, DFI, Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland, CRC and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
This is a wonderful and unique opportunity to celebrate and support the important work of family carers in Ireland. Please share this information with anyone who might find it useful.
We have a dedicated area on this website, ‘I Care for Someone’, for those caring for someone who is seriously ill or at end of life.
