“Give Me Your Hands” Training Resource

Product Description

Give Me Your Hands is  the first video-based training resource for professionals and volunteers working with people encountering death, dying and bereavement in Ireland. Those who could use it include people who train and educate doctors, medical students, nurses, social workers, psychologists, chaplains, and bereavement support volunteers.

The training resource pack comprises a copy of a 26-minute television documentary made by Limerick-based Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Dr Sinéad Donnelly, which centres around three families and their experience of hospice and palliative care.

It describes the lives of Máire, a 30-year-old woman with pelvic cancer, Glen, a nine-year-old boy with a nerve sheath tumour, and Breda, a 48-year-old woman with motor neurone disease. Give Me Your Hands, which was broadcast on RTE in 2004, provides a unique insight into the private world of individuals and families experiencing loss and bereavement.

The educational method in the module offers a visual medium to explore issues of loss and death. It includes facilitated group discussion and allows participants the opportunity to process, reflect and share their reactions and then link this learning to their professional practice and personal life.

  • A copy of the film in DVD format
  • Two copies of 20 still photographs from the documentary
  • Facilitator notes
  • References and glossary.
