Thank you for helping us create an Irish charter on death, dying and bereavement in Ireland
At the Irish Hospice Foundation, we believe achieving excellence in end-of-life care is about supporting each person to live as well as possible to the end of their life so they can die with dignity and humanity and so those left behind can grieve well.
In 2016, we remembered Ireland’s achievements over the past 100 years. At that time we asked you, in the spirit of the national declaration to ‘remember, reflect and re-imagine’, to remember and reflect on your experiences of death and bereavement and re-imagine what it make take to facilitate a good death.
For us all there will come a time when we will need care through illness, at the end of life and in bereavement. It’s important to understand how people look at death and dying so we can make sure correct supports are in place. You were able to tell us this based on your experiences, knowledge, hopes and fears. We found out what Irish people think is required for a good death and grieving.
