Our organisation has been part of a nationwide campaign throughout this year calling for a community neurorehabilitation team to be established in each of the 9 HSE CHO areas around the country.
Community neurorehabilitation teams provide access to vital therapies including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, neuropsychology etc. for people with a wide range of neurological conditions living in the community. These 9 teams were promised in the National Neurorehabilitation Strategy, in an implementation plan published in 2019, but so far only 2 teams are up and running nationwide and even these have long waiting lists and are not fully staffed to meet the local need.
The campaign is called Patients Deserve Better and is led by the Neurological Alliance of Ireland, the national umbrella for over 30 neurological charities.
On 27th June, the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) will publish their pre budget submission calling for all nine teams to be funded, and fully staffed, nationwide.
Ahead of the pre budget launch, NAI is calling on people around the country to take action to support the Patients Deserve Better campaign by visiting www.patientsdeservebetter.ie where you can contact your local politicians directly.
