New Single by International Recording Artist Brigid Boden to Benefit Irish and American Hospice Care

A&M recording artist and singer-songwriter, Brigid Boden, known for her beautiful Celtic voice mixed with strong world beats, has just released her latest single, ‘Sweet Mother of Mine.’ Written and performed in both Irish and English, the song is an emotional ballad about the passing of her mother. With its release, Boden has decided to donate the net proceeds from the digital download sales of the song to benefit hospice care in Ireland and America.

Recently interviewed by Irish Entertainment TV in Los Angeles, Brigid announced her decision to donate her portion of the net sales from the downloads of the song to hospice care, in immense gratitude for the wonderful care shown to her mother and family by hospice.

“I hope to be able to help other patients and families receive the profound care and respect my mother and family experienced from the team at Blackrock Hospice run by Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services in Ireland,” said Boden. “It was a place where my mother told me she ‘felt safe’ and my hope and vision for the song is for it to be heard around the world and to be a comfort to anyone grieving the loss of their mother. “Hospice is a place of gentleness and support – I would be very pleased if this song contributes to quality hospice services being made available to more families.”

Irish Hospice Foundation Director of Fundraising, Helen McVeigh, described Brigid’s work as “incredibly moving.” Ms McVeigh added: “Hospice is about living well to the end, and Brigid’s emotional ballad courageously conveys the depth and breadth of emotion for her mother and how her mother’s wonderful hospice care inspired her to share this experience with others.”

Described by some as “a sweeping, beautifully moving ode”, the song Sweet Mother of Mine is Brigid’s expression of the grief of losing her mother and she hopes that it might help others grieving the loss of a loved one. The song’s music video features butterflies, which Brigid sees as symbolic of freedom from pain.

Chief Executive of Ireland’s largest hospice, Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services, Blackrock and Harold’s Cross, Ms Audrey Houlihan said, “We are delighted to be recognised by Brigid Boden as one of the recipients of the proceeds of her new release ‘Sweet Mother of Mine.’ Such support comes at a very important time as palliative care impacts upon us all and Ireland’s over 65’s population is set to almost triple in the next thirty years.”

The Irish native – who was formerly a ballet dancer – was also touched by what has already been done by her fellow Irishman, Daniel Day Lewis’, with his support of hospice in Wicklow, Ireland.

“In 2016 Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services supported almost 4,000 patients and their families – a 9% increase on the previous year,” added Houlihan. “We also provided over 12,000 single specialist palliative homecare visits – a 48% increase since 2010. To meet this growing demand, Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services have now undertaken the most ambitious project in our 138-year history: to develop 36 new single specialist palliative care rooms and to expand our specialist palliative homecare services throughout south Dublin and Wicklow changing the future face of hospice palliative care for this and the next generation. These redevelopments will complete our urgent vision of holistic and specialist loving care for all by giving reassurance, privacy and dignity to all patients – and their families – in their final days.”

The producer of the track, Grammy Award winner Jeff Bova, has also kindly pledged to contribute his share of any net proceeds from download sales of the song to mirror Brigid’s contribution.

The single is also available through a variety of digital music services, including Amazon, iTunes, CDBaby, and many more.

With the single, which is an exploration into the healing power of music as is currently being witnessed to great acclaim through international touring of songstresses Olivia Newton-John, Beth Nielsen Chapman, and Amy Sky with their album LIV ON, Boden hopes to bring awareness to the tremendous work being done by hospice, not only in her native Ireland, but also in the USA and internationally.

Boden’s professional recording career includes the release of multiple albums on both the A&M Records and Universal Records labels. In addition to recording her own albums, Brigid has written songs for film and television, and performed on video game soundtracks. Her voice can also be heard on numerous compilations.

Brigid’s new single, ‘Sweet Mother of Mine,’ was recorded in Los Angeles with Brigid’s friend and producer, the highly-acclaimed Jeff Bova. With over one hundred platinum- and gold-selling records to his name, Bova is a Grammy Award-winning producer and musician.

The net funds being donated by both Brigid and Jeff will be gifted to three hospice organisations under The Marcella Boden Endowment Fund, honouring the memory of Brigid’s mother. 75% of the funds will be split between two Irish organisations: Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services, and The Irish Hospice Foundation; and the remaining 25% to benefit a US-based organization.
