Remembering Ted Moynihan

Here at The Irish Hospice Foundation, we were very saddened to learn of the death of Ted Moynihan last week.

The Tralee native was a founding member of Kerry Hospice Foundation and spent decades campaigning and fundraising for the introduction of palliative care services in Kerry. All of this hard work came to fruition last year, with the official opening of the new Palliative Care In Patient Unit at University Hospital Kerry.

Our CEO Sharon Foley has been paying tribute to him: ‘I remember Ted with such fondness. He was a true gentleman and a treasure to Kerry Hospice. I was invited along with all the hospice movement to join him at the opening of the new Palliative Care In Patient Unit at Kerry University Hospital last September. He took the time to ring me after to thank me for IHF support of Kerry Hospice. Afterwards we had the opportunity to arrange a lovely poem for him, personally and for Kerry hospice. But Ted was my friend too – he often rang me throughout my own illness as he was facing the same. For all his focus on Kerry, he wanted the best for people at the end of life. Every death matters and he gave his life to this cause. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a Anam.’

Our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at this time.
