LAUNCH OF E-LEARNING TRAINING COURSE FOR BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS

Senator Marie Louise O’Donnell  today (28th March 2013) launched an innovative e-learning training course for bereavement support organisations and volunteers called Working With Loss which has been developed by the Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) with help from bereavement support organisations,  in an effort to bridge the identified gaps in bereavement support.

Most people who are grieving can cope with their loss with social support, information and practical help with tasks.  Level 2 bereavement support is required when a person who is bereaved needs more help than that available from their natural network of family and friends. This bereavement care is relevant to a small percentage of people (approx 25%) and it gives them an opportunity to review and reflect on their loss.  This support is generally delivered by trained volunteers.
